Plea for humanity to end war

Disability rights activist confronts root cause of education shortfall, militarism, in nonviolent protest at Bath Iron Works last month. At West Bath Courthouse, November 3rd, he pled "for humanity to end war."

Spicer was arrested during shift-change Friday Oct. 3, 2026 at Bath Iron Works in conjunction with the International Day of Nonviolence. He traveled from Massachusetts to attend the rally to "Keep Space for Peace" (https://space4peace.org/).

According the the Missile Threat Project, the U.S. used the SM-3 Block III from an Arleigh Burke class destroyer in 2020 against an ICBM class target on Nov 16, 2020. The anti-satellite role was demonstrated in the 2008 Burnt Frost Operation,  and concern for debris in low earth orbit has increased since expanded range can reach even higher orbit satellites.

An intermittent substitute in Somerville, MA, he told the judge, Half of a day's earnings working alongside students with Autism, covered his $70 tank of gas. Already by May the average U.S. household paid over $300 more for gas and diesel since February 28, 2026, than it would have without the war. Now the energy inflation burden averages more than $1,144.70 per U.S. household, according to the Iran War Energy Cost Tracker at Brown University. "With the students we say affirmations, 'I am smart, I have a voice' I'm here to use my voice to exercise dissent."

The US Navy installs its destroyers with sea launched cruise missiles. The 2018 Nuclear Posture Review, the latest, included the plan to put nuclear cruise missiles aboard the Zumwalt class. The Arleigh Burke class are also nuclear weapon capable, substantiating the President's threat, delivered at the United Nations, to end Iranian civilization.

In the first two days of the Iran war alone, 400 Raytheon Tomahawks were fired. By April 2, the President had used 850 of them in Iran, according to the Washington Post, a record, the Stars and Stripes noted, while 802 were used in the Iraq invasion. An Arleigh Burke class destroyer holds 56 Raytheon Tomahawks, the cost of new school construction. As Somerville projects $190 million for a new school for over 900 students, not ready until 2030. It takes up to two years to make a single Tomahawk; the latest model costs $3.6 million, or 25 special education program director salaries.

The Cost of War Project calculates 247 days of U.S. war with Iran has cost Americans $150 billion, aside from military spending. According to Military Times, 10/28/2026 $47 billion has been spent on Iran war citing Sec. Hegseth , and $29 billion to replace munitions used. Aside from costs, a Tomahawk fired from an Arleigh Burke class destroyer was used in massacre of 120 Minab school children.

Spicer approached the podium and handed the leaflet to a public defender.

"I’m not your lawyer," he said.

"To the officer of the court, please" Spicer said.

"Did you watch the video about your rights? ...Do you have any questions about your rights?"

"I have two questions: Are both Constitutional rights and the United Nation Declaration of Human Rights respected here?

After the court demurred on the latter, he continued.

"My second question: Is both the right to bear arms and the right to bear witness--to speak the truth--and the right to dissent--upheld in this courtroom?"

And after no contest of the charge, refusing to leave private property, a class E misdemeanor, he was convicted. No fine was given. He refused to answer a question whether he was a citizen and stated "I'm coming from adherence to the Kingdom of God and am here to make a vote for peace."

The Dragon's Story

Once she raised two eggs on a cliff on the moor. Word spread the Dragon had not been seen. Was she gone? Had she taken ill? Who would protect them! Armed bandits were the first to plan their raid on the nearby villagers. First they sent out a search party. As they neared, they saw she was in her lair. "Why are you here? I should ask you," the Dragon said. "I am the dragon but I fly no more. I fly no more yet am the dragon still." They thought she said, "I cannot fly now." They reported she was roosting eggs. That she did not fly. "Were they golden?" "How do you know?" "Is it true they have magic power?" On they talked until they believed it must be worth the risk. Now the Captain was a pious pirate, the best of the lot. He had risen as chief of them having some schooling in him before he ran from home and lettered, he added arithmetic, and map reading, and had made himself useful until he knew several of the seven seas. He was...

Closing Guantánamo: 2021 in Review

7306 days open--and what are we doing about it? It is a credit to a committed coalition of human rights defenders that we have seen bi-annual attention to the issue since Obama left office. A closer look will show some of the minor victories month by month. This year in review is  partial.  Since a year ago, former prisoners of Guantánamo organized their  open letter to President Biden specifying demands --our role has been to amplify that letter.  Jan 11, 2021 Amnesty International publishes " USA Right the Wrong: Guantánamo Decision Time " Jan. 22, 2021 Ahmed Rabbani, still prisoner at Guantánamo has published in UK Independent a letter to Biden :  When I was kidnapped from Karachi in 2002 and sold to the CIA for a bounty with a false story that I was a terrorist called Hassan Ghul, my wife and I had just had the happy news that she was pregnant. She gave birth to my son Jawad a few months later. I have never been allowed to meet my own child. President Biden ...

Crucified Victims and Desecrated Earth

Photo shared by Art Laffin of Dorothy Day Catholic Worker with banner outside the Pentagon Good Friday, April 2, 2021       Today we mourn to mobilize and disrupt modern day crucifixions. (Revised from original script prepared by Art Laffin for vigil at Pentagon).  Crucified Victim #1--Victim of Torture   Jesus was a torture victim who was condemned by religious authorities and executed by the Roman empire. We remember all torture victims, past and present, who have suffered and died from the effects of torture. We remember those prisoners who died at secret U.S. military black sites, as well as the nine men who died at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo.  Last year Djamel Ameziane, a former Guantánamo prisoner, was legally and morally vindicated as the first complaint related to the "war on terror" in which the US was found responsible to a victim of torture, according to  the long awaited decision May 27, Inter-American Commission on Human R...
